HALCO Supports UNICEF

UNICEF works for children around the world & HALCO are proud supporters.

Unicef UK - Children's charity - For Every Child in Danger

UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, works to build a better world for every child, every day, everywhere. UNICEF provides more children with clean water, life-saving food and vaccines, education, and protection from violence than any other humanitarian organisation.

Millions of children and families are in immediate danger as war continues to escalate in Ukraine. UNICEF are working around the clock in Ukraine and at the borders of neighbouring countries, providing access to clean water, health care services and other critical support.

Each quarter we hold a fun team activity and take the opportunity to raise funds for a chosen charity, we have chosen UNICEF as our charity for Q2.

We took inspiration from UNICEF’s work with Soccer Aid and sporting heroes such as Sir Andy Murray, Sir Chris Hoy and David Beckham OBE and chose to hold our very own SPORTS DAY. Now, there were no records being broken or OUTSTANDING sporting prowess on display – but we had a real giggle and raised £280 in an hour of organised chaos, with £10 being donated by the company on behalf of each participant.

Now it’s time for the HALCO SPORTS REPORT!

5 activities, 4 teams and a shed load of HALCO Hook and Loop.

Of course, we had to HALCO-ify the events – so chose a couple of events that we knew would put our products to the test, as well as all wearing our team colours on HALCO hook and loop armbands!

We started with a three-legged race using our Back-to-Back Fasteners as the leg tie. The HALCO product stood up to the test with Jago and Mickey taking first place for the Blue Team.

Next up was the bean bag toss – using HALCO packaging as the targets, set out at various difficulties, the furthest away providing the biggest point score. It was a close competition in this round, with the Yellow and Blue Teams taking a draw on 5 points each (it was tougher than it looked!)

The third event, which showed some impressive balancing skills was a ‘bean bag on the head’ race! No HALCO products were ‘harmed’ in the making of this event – but instead, we witnessed some intense competitive running skills coming out, with Harvey taking an impressive win for the Blue Team! A photo finish was expected for this race – which produced some great action shots!

The penultimate event, which was our favourite to prepare for; was a sack race. With sacks made from large pieces of HALCO COMFORT Velour Loop connected together with ONLY strips of HALCO KLASP Mushroom Hook these sacks held the weight of fully grown men and women jumping around as if their lives depended on it, with the connection between the products NOT budging at all! An impressive leap over the line led Alex to victory for the Yellow Team.

Last, but by no means least, the egg and spoon relay race – chosen as the final event to try and minimise the resulting eggy mess that had been predicted in advance. The pressure was really getting to the final team members, with a win in the sight of both the Yellow and Blue Teams depending on a top performance. The Yellows rose to the challenge and pulled it out of the bag with an impressive performance from Terri and Gavin who flew past the others to clinch the important win!

(Apologies for the grainy image here - they were going SO fast we could barely capture it on camera! :) )

A great time was had by all, whilst raising funds for a very important charity that is close to our hearts.
