HALCO Supporting Macmillan Cancer Support

This Macmillan Coffee Morning we donated £360 after our latest FUNdraising Event at HALCO HQ!

The first Macmillan Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a relatively small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, they did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £290 million for Macmillan Cancer Support.

To show our support for this wonderful charity, teams from Hereford, Swansea, France & Manchester came together on Tuesday 27th September for our very own coffee morning - for tea, coffee and lots of cake and most importantly, we  teamed up for the great HALCO Coffee Bean Race!

A relatively simple concept - or so we thought!

Two teams and 36 coffee beans!

The Mission: Get your team coffee beans from Point A to Point B one at a time WITHOUT using your hands!
As always, with any HALCO FUNdraising activity (check out our Unicef Sports day if you haven't already) a full team turned out to show off their competitive prowess and we were not disappointed!

There were several adopted techniques...

(Please note: Some of these GIFs have been sped up for your entertainment)
A slow and steady knees together approach during the demonstration by Marketing Manager (and event organiser) Reuben Brown
And, the Rabbit Hop, adopted by Marián Zima (East EU Business Development) and HALCO's Product Development Manager Joel Brown.
Which proved to be a popular tactic amongst a number of other team members!
Tom and Magda took a much more delicate approach...
And UK Account Manager Kent Harris went for a heads down, power jump technique - clearly wanting to take a win for the team!
Invisible skipping ropes were called in for Ana-Marie, Mina and Anna...
All went well until a lack of communication, aka a MAJOR queue issue led to a controversial winners decision. The Red Team assumed they had finished and taken the win - but when coffee beans were still in their Point A bowl - confusion set in...
The Blue Team stuck to the rules and continued to relay their coffee beans whilst a referees decision was called in to make a decision on the red's #BeanGate where it was discovered that 2 team members had missed their turn and were at the back of the queue. Some may say they were avoiding it, others argue that they were worried they would show everyone else up? Isn't that right Terri and Indre? 😉
Marián Zima (arguably HALCO's most competitive team member) and self appointed leader of the Red Team was set to defend the team and call a rematch....
But as referee's decision is final the win was given to the Blue Team.
At the end of the race, everyone is deemed a winner. As a charity FUNdraising event HALCO donated £10 per participant to Macmillan Cancer Support and after quite a workout, we all shared the left over homemade cakes courtesy of the team's Coffee Morning earlier in the day!
